An AI power play: Fueling the next wave of innovation in the energy sector

#artificialintelligence

Tatum, Texas might not seem like the most obvious place for a revolution in artificial intelligence (AI), but in October of 2020, that's exactly what happened. That was when Wayne Brown, the operations manager at the Vistra-owned Martin Lake Power Plant, built and deployed a heat rate optimizer (HRO). Vistra Corp. is the largest competitive power producer in the United States and operates power plants in 12 states with a capacity of more than 39,000 megawatts of electricity--enough to power nearly 20 million homes. Vistra has committed to reducing emissions by 60 percent by 2030 (against a 2010 baseline) and achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. To achieve its goals, the business is increasing efficiency in all its power plants and transforming its generation fleet by retiring coal plants and investing in solar- and battery-energy storage, which includes the world's largest grid-scale battery energy-storage facility.

Low Code Data Science is the Future

#artificialintelligence

It is not a research niche anymore. Random Forests and Deep Learning networks are now available in libraries and tools, waiting to be applied to business problems and real-world data. This is so true that the focus of AI has now shifted from proposing new paradigms and new algorithms to engineering existing solutions via a standardized sequence of MLOps. When something moves away from research and becomes mainstream, other segments of the data analytics society claim access to it. Can people who haven't learned how to code, like marketing analysts, physicians, nurses, CFOs, accountants, mechanical engineers, auditing professionals, and many other professional figures, successfully implement AI solutions?

The candidate will serve as a deputy to the Operations Manager of Field Support Operations on several fast-paced projects supporting the development of AI in the intelligence analysis arena.

Agora: Towards An Open Ecosystem for Democratizing Data Science & Artificial Intelligence

arXiv.org Artificial Intelligence

Data science and artificial intelligence are driven by a plethora of diverse data-related assets including datasets, data streams, algorithms, processing software, compute resources, and domain knowledge. As providing all these assets requires a huge investment, data sciences and artificial intelligence are currently dominated by a small number of providers who can afford these investments. In this paper, we present a vision of a data ecosystem to democratize data science and artificial intelligence. In particular, we envision a data infrastructure for fine-grained asset exchange in combination with scalable systems operation. This will overcome lock-in effects and remove entry barriers for new asset providers. Our goal is to enable companies, research organizations, and individuals to have equal access to data, data science, and artificial intelligence. Such an open ecosystem has recently been put on the agenda of several governments and industrial associations. We point out the requirements and the research challenges as well as outline an initial data infrastructure architecture for building such a data ecosystem.

Uber Plans To Launch Food-Delivery Drones

The Wall Street Journal reported that Uber plans to launch food-delivery drones by 2021. A job post, which Uber later removed from its website, indicated that the company was looking for an operations manager to handle delivery drones. Uber Technologies Inc. has a ridesharing app that allows drivers, who work as independent contractors, to connect with people who need a need ride. The company also owns UberEats, which lets people deliver food from local restaurants.
